Roses are Red Violets are Blue...
There can't be a tripelover on the planet who has'nt heard at least one version of this popular poem. Most of us also know that it dates back over 400 years to Sir Edmund Spencers epic The Faerie Queene (they did'nt have Spellcheck back then).
It was upon a Sommers shynie day,
When Titan faire his beames did display,
In a fresh fountaine, farre from all mens vew,
She bath'd her brest, the boyling heat t'allay;
She bath'd with roses red, and violets blew,
And all the sweetest flowres, that in the forrest grew.
He bangs on a bit.....more Faeries , more Queenes, but you get the drift. By 1784 it appeared in Gammer Gurtons Garland a collection of English Nursery Rhymes.
The rose is red, the violet's blue,
The honey's sweet, and so are you.
Thou are my love and I am thine;
I drew thee to my Valentine:
The lot was cast and then I drew,
And Fortune said it shou'd be you
However , after an extensive search on Googlie II have unearthed what I believe to be the original, previously unknown version.e.
The Heart is Red, The Lungs are Blue
Tripe is Amazing
Go Figure...
Who Knew?
Short, Primitive but Powerful......They just did'nt have the Guts to Publish.
